The project "Development of climate-sustainable water resources"
With the support of the Islamic Development Bank
Financing:
A loan from the Islamic Development Bank in the amount of 1,150 million US dollars guaranteed by the state.
Key objectives:
Construction of 5 new and reconstruction of 4 existing reservoirs.
Reconstruction of 115 irrigation channels.
Implementation of automated water accounting systems and digitalization.
Development of professional education in the industry.
Geography:
The project covers 7 regions of Kazakhstan:
Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Zhetysu, Kyzylorda, Turkestan and West Kazakhstan regions.
Implementation stages:
Tranche 1 (from August 29, 2025)
Amount: 416 million US dollars
Directions: construction and installation work, capacity development, technology implementation.
Tranche 2 (planned for 2026)
Amount: 737.5 million US dollars
Directions: continuation of construction, expansion of modernization and digitalization programs.
Terms of the first tranche:
Term: 20 years (including a 5-year grace period).
Interest rate: Euribor 6M + 1.45%.
Currency: Euro.
